IGCSE Higher English Language Course

Description

LCC Learning’s online course in GCSE English Language familiarises you, step by step, with all aspects of the English language, from spelling, punctuation and grammar to vocabulary, sentence structure, and composition. You will learn how to read text closely and analyse it methodically, understanding its context and what literary tools writers apply to a variety of purposes. You will also learn how best to use the language yourself, including brainstorming and planning out your text, generating ideas and structuring sentences and paragraphs, and understanding which styles of writing work best for different contexts.

The course covers every topic on the IGCSE English Language syllabus and is suitable for any student following the UK national curriculum. With thorough explanations of every topic, video classes and hundreds of unique exam-style questions, this is the ideal learning tool both for students in the midst of revision and for beginners to the subject. The skills you will learn are not only necessary for a successful GCSE grade; they are tools that you will find yourself calling upon for the rest of your life.

This course guides students through the entire English Language syllabus. There are more than 60 individual modules, each explaining a single topic in full from beginning to end. Each module includes exam-style questions on that topic, allowing you to reinforce your knowledge of every single topic and to track your progression.

Mock Assessments

Because the English Language GCSE grade is awarded based on the student’s performance in exams, familiarising yourself with the assessment process and practising the tests is an essential component of success in the subject.

Because every topic on the syllabus is covered individually in this course, each module includes questions and assignments, allowing you to reinforce your knowledge of every single topic and to track your progression. When you feel you are ready, make sure to try the end-of-unit tests, which present you with a series of questions very similar to what you will encounter in the final exams.

Requirements

As this course follows the GCSE syllabus, it is appropriate for anyone who has finished Key Stage 3 (or equivalent) before attempting it. Any adult, and school students who have reached the end of Year 9 (in the UK education system) will be well-placed to get the most out of the course.

How you will study

Whereas a classroom-based learning programme requires adherence to a fixed schedule, and force you to work at athe same pace as other students, LCC Learning’s GCSE online courses are fully flexible; tackle as much or as little of the content as you require, as many times as you want, in whatever order you prefer, at whatever pace suits you. This course is the perfect choice if you need to fit your studies around existing commitments like family life and work.

As long as you are subscribed to this online course you have access to all course materials, including modules, assessments and assignments, and live and archived video classes. The contents are presented in order to allow a recommended linear progression through the syllabus, but you can just as easily jump straight into the topics that you know you need to focus on. Whatever stage of learning you are at, LCC Learning can help.

Each module explains in detail an individual topic on the syllabus, with examples provided to aid comprehension. Each module includes a series of questions on that same topic, so you can check whether you understand it so far. More than 60 seperate modules allow you to make your way through the entire syllabus thoroughly and systematically, tracking your progress.

Careers and Employability

GCSEs are among the world’s most recogniseable qualifications, and as such are likely to enhance your employability both domestically and internationally. They indicate proficiency in core skills with the potential to raise your achivement in a range of professional disciplines. With thousands of private GCSE candidates every year, it is never too late to study for a new qualification.

As either the first or second language of a great many countries, English is the most used language in the world, and the principal means of intenational communication for both academia and business. Understanding how best to use it in different contexts is an excellent way to gain a competitive edge in the jobs market. Most job applications will require either a written statement, one-to-one interview, or both; writing and speaking to persuade are important skills to learn in any field of work. Naturally, the contents of the English Language GCSE syllabus are a prerequisite to any job that involves writing or speaking, ranging from academia and journalism to business and law. Even industries that focus on mathematics and science-related skills will value ‘soft skills’ such as presentation and communication; earning power is enhanced when an individual can be trusted to communicate with colleagues and clients in a professional and gramatically-correct manner.

About LCC Learning

LCC Learning offers centre-based and online tuition for all ages, ranging from early learning years to adult learning. Founded in 2014, our first centre was opened upon the belief that we could provide two things: bespoke private tuition and a stimulating learning environment away from home. Since then, we have expanded to more locations and seen great success stories from our students. Our students not only receive the focused attention they miss out on in school, but also build on their learning under the supervision of our tutors. This formula maximises a student’s chance of academic success, grows their confidence, and builds a robust skill set in independent study.
